Geelong Cats congratulates Chris Scott on his appointment as coach of Victoria in next year’s State of Origin match against Western Australia.
Scott is set to lead a Victorian team that will contain some of the best names in the game, as the AFL renews State of Origin football for the first time in more than 25 years.
It is another accolade for Scott, who holds one of the most impressive coaching resumes in the modern era, including premierships in 2011 and 2022, and two All-Australian coaching selections in the same years.
Scott previously coached Australia in the 2017 International Rules Series against Ireland, leading his team to two hard-fought and memorable victories, in what proved to be the last official series between the countries.
Prior to coaching the Australian team, Scott had also served as an assistant coach under Alistair Clarkson in the 2014 and 2015 International Rules Series.
The State of Origin match between Victoria and Western Australia will be played on 14 February at Optus Stadium.
Geelong Cats Chief Executive Officer Steve Hocking congratulated Scott on the recognition.
“Chris’ remarkable record as a coach speaks for itself, and it is great to see him recognised with the honour of coaching the Victorian team in the return of State of Origin football,” Hocking said.
“As a Club, we’re excited to see State of Origin return to the football calendar in its new form, and look forward to seeing some of the best football talent in the country gathered for the game.”
The last AFL State of Origin game was played in 1999, when Victoria took on South Australia at the MCG. Geelong greats like Peter Riccardi and Garry Hocking represented the ‘Big V’ in that particular match.
