Cameron is ticking off his performance markers.

JEREMY Cameron is closing in on a return to training with the main group as he continues to progress through his recovery from a right hamstring strain.

The Cats prized off-season recruit re-injured his troublesome hamstring just under a month ago during Geelong’s Round 16 clash with the Bombers.

“We’re happy with Jeremy’s progress. He’s ticking off a number of his performance markers with the medical and conditioning team,” Cats GM of Football Simon Lloyd says.

"We’re progressing and he’ll be introduced to football very shortly.”

Rehab partner Mitch Duncan has also made some strides.

“Mitch Duncan has given his knee a period of time for the PCL to settle,” Lloyd says.

“He’s now starting to increase his strength and cross training and is beginning to run which is positive.

“Similarly to Jez, we’re very happy with Mitch’s progress”

Cats captain Joel Selwood is in a race against the clock to recover from a corked quad in time to take on North Melbourne this Saturday.

Selwood was subbed out of Geelong’s win over the Tigers midway through the third term.

“Joel, the professional that he is, will do everything humanly possible to get himself up for this week. He’s having treatment around the clock to try and get himself up,” Lloyd says.

“We’ll see how he functions at training come Thursday.”

Milestone man Shaun Higgins looks set to play his 250th game against his former side North Melbourne after knee soreness delayed him reaching the mark last week.

“It was relatively minor and management of Shaun,” Lloyd says.

“We’d expect him to be available this week.”

Mercurial small forward Gryan Miers was yesterday ruled out for 'a number of weeks' after re-injuring his right fibula.

Cooper Stephens (ankle), Stefan Okunbor (calf) and Cameron Taheny (hamstring) have all progressed with their respective rehab programs.
