It had already been a special week for Lawson Humphries and his family, but it got even better on Saturday afternoon as the Cats romped to a big victory over the Power at Adelaide Oval.

Geelong wore their 2025 First Nations Guernsey for the very first time on Saturday, which was designed by Worrora, Oomiday and Nyul Nyul artist Meeza Humphries, with contributions from her siblings Lawson, Joshua and Stephanie, and input from parents Jodi and Ross.

One of the top highlights from the game came early in the third term, as Humphries curled home the second goal of his AFL career and displayed plenty of passion in the celebration, emphatically and proudly showing off the guernsey.

The young star said it was a nice moment for himself and his family, putting the cherry on top of an incredible week.

"It was so special," Humphries told Cats Media.

"All the pre match stuff, the announcement of it this week, and my sister and I were able to talk about it last night to the team. Just the respect that everybody showed me during the week, and their support for the guernsey was unreal.

"I felt really proud to wear it tonight and represent our family.

"But playing for this footy club, the boys talked to me before the game about how much of a privilege it is to wear it. Things like that just mean a lot, I am so grateful for the boys because their support through it all has been unreal.

"I am really stoked to be able to play in it and to have a really good win."

Humphries was back to his brilliant best on return against the Power, accumulating 19 disposals and five intercept possessions to play an important role in the Cats backline.

But the young star was full of praise for his fellow defenders, particularly noting the influence of Jack Henry on his return from injury and Mark O'Connor, who was comfortably among the best players on the ground.

O'Connor finished the afternoon with a career-high 28 disposals, 10 intercept possessions and over 800 metres gained, while Henry was never beaten on the last line of defence, picking off a game-high five intercept marks.

"Those two especially, they do so much behind the scenes," Humphries said.

"The work they do behind the ball early, they are really proactive defenders and I don't really think they get enough credit for how good they are.

It is obviously great to see the get their flowers tonight, each week it seems to be a different person stepping up.

"I think that is the importance of having such a strong backline, which I think we do. We work such a good system, but on a given night anybody can play really well and dominate, obviously tonight it was those two.

"I am super stoked for them, it was so good having Jack back too."
