GEELONG defender Tom Stewart has been announced as an All Australian for the third time in his five-season AFL career.

The 28-year-old was named in a back pocket by the All Australian selection panel after an impressive home-and-away season down back for the Cats which saw him featured in Geelong's best in 15 of the 20 games he played.

Stewart's ability to influence the game with his intercept possessions and then launch scoring opportunities with his elite disposal saw him become one of the game's best attacking weapons off half back.

The 28-year-old Cat finished the regular season ranked first for marks, third for average effective kicks, ninth for average intercept marks, 11th for average intercept possessions and 13th for average metres gained.

Stewart is also ranked elite across a swathe of stats, including average disposals (24), marks (8.9), disposal efficiency (84.8 per cent), intercept possessions (7.8) and metres gained (493.7).

Stewart is currently sidelined with a Lisfranc injury but is working hard to give himself the best chance of returning later in the season should the Cats go deep into September.
