The Geelong Football Club is proud to share the latest edition of its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

The Innovate RAP has been formally endorsed by Reconciliation Australia and aims to build upon and strengthen the club’s commitment to recognising, supporting and welcoming Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into the club.

After launching its inaugural RAP in 2013, the club’s latest edition has been developed with the deep commitment and collaboration from both internal and external stakeholders represented on the club’s RAP working group.

The document includes a table of actions under Reconciliation Australia’s four key pillars – relationships, respect, opportunities and governance which will form a framework for meaningful impact and outcomes into the future.

The club’s board of directors, executive team, staff, and players are committed to contributing to Australia’s reconciliation journey with a vision to ensure our club reflects a culture that is shared and proudly embraced by all people.

Geelong Chief Executive Brian Cook understands the leadership role the club plays in the community, and takes this responsibility very seriously.

“We aim to have a genuine and positive influence on reconciliation by role modelling how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are treated and respected within our Club and our community,” Cook said.

“By calling out racial vilification, celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and of course by applauding on-field achievement; we can shape greater and influence positive change.

“We will continue through our people, our programs and our players, to strengthen our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

“This journey will continue, and we are constantly learning and evolving. We will continue to listen to the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We are committed to ensuring our words result in action.”
