Geelong has today announced VFLW senior coach Taylah Hassett will depart the Cats, concluding a successful two years at the helm.  

Appointed ahead of the 2025 season, Hassett took on the coaching role at just 22 years old. In the two seasons since, she has guided the Cats through a period of strong growth, leading the side to an eight win campaign and seventh-place finish in 2026, climbing four ladder positions from her first season. 

Beyond the teams on-field improvement, Hassett has played an important role in developing local and emerging talent, strengthening the program's connection to local pathways and fostering a strong culture across the VFLW program. 

Hassett leaves the Cats having significantly contributed to the strong foundations that position the group for continued growth in the years ahead. 

Geelong General Manager AFLW, Dom Condo, thanked Hassett for her contribution to the Club. 

“Taylah has made a genuine and significant contribution to our VFLW program over the past two seasons,” Condo said. 

“The care Taylah has shown for those around her, alongside her commitment to driving high standards, has played an important role in shaping the program and people involved. 

“Taylah leaves the program in a stronger position than when she arrived, having established foundations that will support the continued growth and success in the years ahead. 

“We thank Taylah for everything she has given to the Club and look forward to following what is next for her.” 

Reflecting on her time at Geelong, Hassett said she was proud of what the program had achieved. 

“It’s been an incredible privilege to lead the Geelong VFLW program over the past two seasons,” she said.  

“I’m extremely grateful to the Club for trusting me with the opportunity and incredibly proud of the growth we’ve seen across the program during that time.  

“Watching this group develop both on and off the field, while building a culture centred around connection, enjoyment and valuing people, is something I’ll always be proud of. The relationships I’ve formed with our players, coaches and staff are something I’ll always be grateful for.  
 
“While it’s difficult to step away, the time feels right to focus on my career and life outside of football. I leave with so much love for this group and the Club, and I’m excited to watch their individual journey’s and the VFLW program continue to grow.” 

The VFLW Best and Fairest will be held next Thursday 24 September.
