Renee Garing has been awarded the AFLW Community Champion Award, proudly presented by Viva Energy.

Garing’s commitment to creating a better community is unwavering, she exemplifies club values and is passionate about the health and wellbeing of everyone.

Renee is a dedicated ambassador of our Club’s most recognised community program in Just Think and she devotes her little spare time to various charities that impacts the lives of so many.

This year they have included the Pretty Foundation, Salvation Army and Fight Cancer Foundation, plus many hours on ward walks with the Geelong Cats.

“Renee exemplifies our club values of which we hold so dear,” Chief Executive Brian Cook said.

“From the moment Renee joined our Club she has been the first to put up her hand and demonstrate a genuine commitment to and leadership within our community.”

“Renee is a very worthy winner of the Cats Community Champion Award in 2020.”

Recently retired captain Melissa Hickey couldn't think of a more deserving winner.

"The importance of our club’s connections to the community is clear in your work with the Just Think campaign, ward walks and how much of an incredible role model you are," Hickey said.

"I am so proud I got to be your teammate and your impact on our community is far reaching, more than you will ever know."

Head of Women's Football and Pathways Simone Bellears agrees that Renee is a great example of someone who lives our club values.

"Her positivity brings the best out in people, encouraging and supporting others to be their best selves, she (is) always seeing the good in someone," Bellears said.

"Her strong sense of faith is central to her care and treatment of others and her focus on creating a better community is unwavering."

"She is the first to volunteer for community appearances and a leader in supporting local community issues, especially those affecting young people."

"She is a worthy winner of the Geelong Football Club’s Community champion award and I take this opportunity, on behalf of the women’s program, to congratulate her on this achievement."
