Every time star Cat Evie Cowcher was within the vicinity of the football, there was an unmissable roar around Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Saturday afternoon.Â
Selected out of Western Australia in last year's draft, the young defender played her first game in her home state on the weekend, featuring in Geelong's win over the Eagles.Â
The remarkable noise and support was from her family and friends, who nearly packed out an entire grandstand at the stadium on their own, providing noticeable support for the visitors right throughout the contest.Â
Cowcher certainly did not let her supporters down either, collecting 11 disposals and six marks to contribute heavily to a brilliant defensive display for the Cats.Â
Following Geelong's ninth consecutive win, the young star said it was an exciting occasion to be able to return home and play in front of her incredible support network.Â
"It means the world to me to be back home," Cowcher said.Â
"I haven't been home for a while, so to see all my family and friends, even my first ever footy coach came out today.
"It was pretty awesome to be home."
The Cats took some time to fully hit their straps on Saturday afternoon, staving off a strong challenge from the Eagles and a contested first half, before pulling away late with an impressive finish.Â
The big shift after half time saw the Cats record 16 scoring shots in the second half alone, leading to a 53-point victory out west and helping to solidify their spot near the top of the ladder.Â
Cowcher noted that there is certainly a positive energy around the playing group, as the Cats look to attack the final two games of the home-and-away season.Â
"It is pretty unreal, everyone is up and about so it's good," Cowcher said.Â
"I think we just got around each other and supported each other, which helped us get momentum to go forward.
"Everyone got around it, which is good."
