Last week the Geelong Football Club recognised Down Syndrome Victoria for the substantial impact they have had on the local community.

Representatives and volunteers from the three organisations had the opportunity to attend Friday's match against the Western Bulldogs, sitting in the GMHBA Community Bay.

The GMHBA Community Bay has been established to provide local community groups, families and individuals the opportunity to attend a Geelong Cats home game.

During Friday's match, the organisation was also recognised at quarter time with an on-field introduction, along with a video explaining the fantastic work they do.

Down Syndrome Victoria

Down Syndrome Victoria, or DSV, is Victoria’s peak organisation representing people with Down syndrome and their families.

DSV works alongside people with Down syndrome to advocate for and support access to equitable opportunities across health, education, employment and community life, ensuring every Victorian with Down syndrome can reach their potential and live the life they choose.

DSV offers a range of services and supports to people with Down syndrome, their families and professionals across the lifespan including personal and tailored support for families; social and health groups for people with Down syndrome; resources, support, workshops and information on relevant topics; an education program providing extensive support for schools, students and families; a jam-packed calendar of community events; and a popular newsletter, podcast and online community groups.

DSV’s work supports a society where people with Down syndrome are valued and enjoy social and economic inclusion.

In 2025, DSV partnered with the Geelong Regional Down Syndrome Network to deliver the regional connections project. This project is building stronger local pathways for connection, peer support and community participation throughout the Geelong region. The project has been made possible through the generous support of Cosmopolitan Lodge Queenscliff Freemasons, the Western District Freemasons and the Freemasons Foundation Victoria

The Geelong Football Club were delighted to welcome representatives from Down Syndrome Victoria, the Freemasons and the Geelong Regional Network, along with 130 members of the Geelong Down syndrome community.
