Patrick Dangerfield's illustrious AFL career has seen him reach yet another remarkable milestone, with Geelong's captain equalling Gary Ablett Junior for the most votes polled in Brownlow Medal history. 

Receiving three votes at the AFL's night of nights on Monday, Dangerfield joined his former teammate and Cats great atop the leaderboard, taking his career tally to 262 votes which is the most of any player in the history of the award. 

Geelong have plenty of representation near the top of the leaderboard for career totals at the Brownlow, with Dangerfield and Ablett Jnr occupying the top spot, while Joel Selwood is also within the top 10. 

2026 also marked the 17th consecutive season that Dangerfield has received votes on Brownlow night, having now polled in 112 games across his career. 

Dangerfield polled the first Brownlow votes of his career in 2010, his third season at the elite level and it was ultimately the beginning of a remarkable journey in the game's top individual award. 

He would go on to poll 97 votes during his time with the Crows, before returning home to Geelong in 2016 and immediately taking his game to greater heights. 

In his debut season at the Cattery, Dangerfield polled 35 votes to claim the Brownlow Medal, polling nine best on grounds to finish nine votes clear of Luke Parker atop the leaderboard. 

He would go extremely close the following year once again, polling another 33 votes and finishing just three off the pace of the eventual winner, recording a sixth consecutive top-seven finish in the award. 

He continued to accumulate plenty of votes, going on to finish 10th in the Brownlow in 2018 and then another runner-up finish in 2019, before capping off a ninth straight top-10 finish in the 2020 season.
