Geelong Line passengers travelling to the Geelong Cats and Brisbane Lions AFL Qualifying Final at the MCG on Friday night will have access to five extra trains, in addition to regular scheduled train services on the Geelong Line.

To get to the game, fans can catch a Geelong Line train approximately every 10 to 15 minutes, and extra services are scheduled to depart Wyndham Vale Station at 5.19pm and 5.46pm to boost capacity along the line.

Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams: “There’s more services running on the Geelong Line than ever before, making it easier for Cats and Lions fans to get along on Friday night, fill the MCG and support the start of their team’s finals campaign.

"Since we introduced the regional fare cap, we’ve seen record numbers of passengers taking full advantage of V/Line services, while saving millions of dollars - making it even easier to get to the footy."

After the game, extra services will depart Southern Cross at 11.10pm, 11.22pm and 11.45pm running through to Waurn Ponds. There will also be extra carriages added to the scheduled trains from Southern Cross to Waurn Ponds at 11.30pm and 12.15am for fans to get home.

Passengers can travel between Southern Cross Station and the MCG on a Metro Trains service to either Jolimont or Richmond stations.

V/Line Executive Director Operations Sussanah Osborne: “There are plenty of options to get to Melbourne for the game on Friday night, with trains approximately every 10 to 15 minutes on the Geelong Line. Services will be popular as fans head to the game so we encourage passengers to plan their travel in advance.”

The regional fare cap means passengers will pay only $11 full fare and $5.50 concession to get to the MCG and home again for same day travel.

Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead by visiting the footy page of the V/Line website for a full list of service times and travel information.
