Two Tackling Machines Go Toe-to-Toe

Typically when discussing epic midfield battles, the focus goes to the big disposal winners, those on-ballers with attacking flair and a knack for producing dramatic moments.

But this week will be fascinating in a different sense, with two of the best defensive midfielders and two best tacklers in the competition set to go head to head at Optus Stadium.

West Coast's Jack Graham is ranked second in the AFL for tackles this year, laying an average of 8.6 tackles per game which is second only to Geelong's Tom Atkins, who averages 9.9 tackles per game.

The two players are well clear of the next best tacklers in the competition so far in 2025, which will produce an enticing match-up on Sunday night.

Limiting West Coast's Run and Carry

One area the Eagles have excelled in this year is their ability to run and carry with the football, ranked as the second best team in the competition for bounces in 2025.

Across 11 games this season, West Coast have taken more bounces in eight matches which helps them to access the corridor and move the ball forward.

Six Eagles' are ranked in the the top 40 players for bounces taken this year, lead by Ryan Maric who sits eighth in the league with 21 bounces.

Geelong will need to stifle this on Sunday night to be able to get the game on their terms.

Locking the Ball Inside Forward 50

West Coast are ranked as the second best team in the competition this year for Rebound 50's, averaging 42.9 rebounds per game which showcases their ability to exit defensive 50.

This stat is lead by Liam Duggan, Ryan Maric and Reuben Ginbey, who are all ranked inside the AFL's top 20 for rebound 50's this year.

Geelong by comparison rank 12th in the league for inside 50 entries this year, meaning they will need to make the most of their entries and find effective avenues to goal on Sunday night.
