Nina Morrison has continued her dominant form this season, amassing 30 disposals for the second consecutive game against Melbourne on Thursday night.

The breakout star is spending more time in the midfield this year averaging a career high 25 disposals across the opening five weeks, along with six tackles and 12 contested possessions per game.

The 22 year old has also been damaging in front of goal, pushing forward to hit the scoreboard in four of the first five games.

Receiving eight coaches votes for her performance against Melbourne, Morrison now leads the Cats with 26 votes for the year after polling in four matches so far this season.

Morrison said that a consistent, injury free run in 2022 helped her to build momentum as she continues her development in one of the competition’s strongest midfields.

"I think this is the most consistency I have had to start a season,” Morrison said.

“I am really happy with how I am performing at the moment, and playing more midfield time this season has really helped to contribute to that.

"I feel that it has come off the back of some consistency last year and a good pre season.

"It feels like a fair while ago now that I had to battle through injury, to have the double season last year helped me to get a good chunk of games under my belt.”

Despite falling to the ladder leading Demons last week, the Cats still remain entrenched in sixth position at the halfway point of the season.

Geelong have gained valuable experience from clashes against two of the best teams in the competition, while also performing strongly in their three wins so far.

Morrison said the first half of the season went as expected for the Cats, setting them up for a big run home starting this week against Essendon.

"We have had some really strong performances, and played some really good sides as well,” Morrison said.

"Obviously three and two at the midway point of the season, but we have taken some really good learnings from those losses we have had.

"It's about where we expected to be at this stage of the year, which really sets us up well for the back half of the season.

"Playing some really experienced sides has helped us uncover a few things that we now know to touch up on, to really contest and stay with those top teams for four quarters."
