CHLOE Scheer is determined to let her footy do the talking this season as she prepares for her second campaign with Geelong.

It wasn't quite the dream start at the Cats for Scheer. It took time to settle into her new club and new home a state away from family and friends, all at the age of 22.

"I think just getting there and then trying to settle was a little bit challenging," Scheer told womens.afl.

"Personally, I wasn't happy with my season, but I think towards the end I started to get better with my performance."

The premiership forward made the move from Adelaide ahead of last season, in what was a shock to the footy world, and despite her own tough criticism of her first year at the Cats Scheer certainly made an impact.

She equalled her career-best eight goals, including three second-half goals against Brisbane as Geelong pushed the reigning premiers until the final siren. But Scheer's late-season surge in form also came with more time higher up the field, rather than stationed in the goal square.

"I love being up the field instead of being that target," Scheer said.

"If we could move the ball quickly and get me in a one-on-one situation, I think that's different, but I just don't think we're there yet. And I think I can utilise my weapon which is kicking around the ground."

The connecting role between the midfield and forward line is a crucial one for the Cats, given they averaged the third fewest inside 50s per game last season, with just 23 each week, and it has been a focal point during the preseason.

Experienced forwards Shelley Scott and Jackie Parry have made the move from Melbourne, changing the face of Geelong's attack, and have encouraged that chemistry across lines.

"I really enjoy having them in, I guess they give us a different look in the forward line from season six. We were pretty much just going long down the line and getting the ball kicked on our heads. Whereas now, even just in training, as a forward-line group we're working really well together in terms of our leading patterns and hitting up. It's just feeling so much better.

"Hopefully we'll be scoring a lot more this season."

And it's another recruit who Scheer thinks will contribute to this midfield-forward connection the most.

"Mikayla Bowen, she'll be on our wing. Just her ability to run and take the game on is incredible and I think that's something new to our midfield which I'm looking forward to. Especially with her speed, changing lanes, breaking the game open… she should be very dangerous."

While Geelong made clear improvements in season six, the side still only took the points in two games, but the potential on the list is enormous.

"I feel like I haven't reached my potential either, but I think Geelong as a collective, we're building a really unique young group which is really exciting for the future. And hopefully we'll see some of that the season going forward."
