Dear member,

We hope that you are in good health and coping with the current restrictions. As we’ve said before, we encourage you all to follow advice from the health experts so that we can come through this as quickly as possible.

The support the club is receiving from our members, supporters and corporate partners is extraordinary and drives us to do everything we can to remain a strong club for many years to come.

We have had current and previous members purchase new or additional memberships, and loyal partners re-affirm their commitment to the club.

The AFL’s intent is to play the remaining 144 home and away games plus finals in 2020. We support this position. Unfortunately, this makes it extremely hard for us to provide clarity in terms of your membership. As a club we are planning for the season to recommence in 2020 and as such, our membership staff remain on during this period and will happily respond to calls and emails during this time.

The AFL this week announced it had secured bank support to ensure the league and the clubs survive and each club will be able to access this bank support as needed. There is a disappointing aspect to this - as a club, we have spent the past decade reducing our debt and this year we planned and expected to be debt free for the first time in 50 years.

These recent events mean that our club will now be unable to relinquish our current debt this year and the new question for us is how much debt we will need to carry and what this will mean to our club into the future?

Our players are at home and their first priority is to look after the health and wellbeing of their families. Some players from interstate have gone home. All have a fitness program to help maintain their fitness levels.

By following the club’s website and social media channels, you’ll be able to stay in touch with our players whilst they are at home isolating. You can also re-live moments from our 160 years and also access a wealth of educational content our community team provides to schools across the Geelong region.

Your support for our club is what sustains us through good and tough times. This time will eventually pass, and we will be back enjoying the game and club we all love. In the meantime, stay safe and help those around you.

Thank you for your on-going support.

Go Cats!
