For such a long period of time, Geelong has preached the importance of having flexibility and versatility within their line-up, and Chris Scott will generally always have a trick or two up his sleeve.Â
On the eve of Finals footy, the Cats shifted the magnets in Saturday night's victory over Richmond, with Jeremy Cameron playing across half back on his return and Patrick Dangerfield spending more time through the middle of the ground.Â
But perhaps the move that has immediately paid dividends over the past fortnight has been the shift to put Shaun Mannagh into more of a permanent midfield role, with the star Cat having an extraordinary impact against the Tigers.Â
Mannagh finished the night with an equal career-high 33 disposals while also booting three goals, adding seven tackles and five clearances for good measure.Â
It helped the Cats to secure a sixth consecutive victory and at least a top-six finish on the ladder, with Mannagh noting that Geelong will take plenty of confidence and momentum into their September campaign.Â
"We set out to achieve that at the start of every pre-season, we always aim to finish as high as we can to give ourselves the best chance to go deep in September," Mannagh said.Â
"I think we still have to wait for a couple of results to see where we end up, but most likely fifth at this stage.
"The boys are pumped, Scotty mentioned post-game that we have beaten every team in front of us bar Hawthorn this year, and we lost to them by a point.
"Our game is in a good spot, six in a row is really nice and we will take a lot of confidence going into the next few weeks."
Mannagh has been in sensational form recently, kicking 14 goals and averaging 21 disposals per game across his last seven outings, hitting his straps at the right time of year.Â
It is not an unfamiliar position for the star Cat and his side, who will now enjoy a week off to rest and prepare themselves, before returning in the opening week of September to commence their Finals campaign.Â
Geelong will await the result of Sunday's clash between West Coast and Hawthorn to determine their final position, with the possibility of finishing either fourth or fifth.Â
Either way, the Cats will carry plenty of momentum with their six-game winning streak, with Mannagh noting that they will utilise the week off to fine tune their game.Â
"It is an interesting one the Wildcard, so we will wait and see how that plays out," Mannagh said.Â
"The last couple of years we have had this week off, then played in the Qualifying Final and we have been lucky enough to win, then have another week off.
"This year might be a bit different, hopefully we can play four games to win the flag. Having that momentum now, if we can go on to win 10 in a row then it would be pretty good going.
"We will get to work this week though, as much as it is a week off, it is still time to tighten up our game. We were not amazing tonight, we had our moments but we let them control a bit of the game as well.
"This week it will be about getting to work and making sure we are tightened up for the following week."
