Stinear on what sparked Geelong's turnaround
Reflecting off the back of last week, there was a lot of things that were within our control in the game.
Yes, North Melbourne were very good and their pressure was very good, but we were still getting our hands on the ball. Our method was just a little bit poor and we were a bit unpredictable, which played into their hands and they made us pay for it.
When you are reviewing the game, you are seeing these opportunities that we could get an instant shift, and we can make the game look different. Obviously we weren't playing a team with the same depth and experience of North, so not trying to say that we improved off the charts, but we were definitely better than last week.
Our intensity and effort probably went up a level from last week, just around the footy and in the contest. But more specifically, our ability to navigate the inside to the outside, then finding a mark from contest to take control of the game.
That gave us a chance to defend in behind it and get some good time in forward half.Â
Stinear on remaining unchanged at team selection
From a selection point of view, the match committee decided to back last week's group in to learn from it and then make the change.
To see them apply it, and just the smiles and the joy that they got from playing the game, the moments that the night created for a number of different players, families and people. To be able to do that in front of a big crowd, it is just a really special night for our program.
But also, now we have displayed that level of footy, we are on the hook for that in terms of our consistency.
We can't go back to the chaos that we produced last week, we now need to keep holding ourselves accountable for playing with that intent, but then combine it with the method and become a far more consistent team.Â
Stinear on his first win at Geelong
I am just happy for the group.
They showed what they are capable of and just to get reward for effort, they have been doing a lot of things right on and off the field. They are really buying into the program, so it is nice when you are selling a message as a senior leadership group, and then the group actually feels it.
Like I said, there were a lot good moments that hopefully it just creates a desire to want to do it again.
Hopefully it ramps up the belief a little bit more, in terms of what we are doing and the direction we are heading.
The most critical thing for us is to get back to work again, and not treat this week any differently to last week in terms of our appetite to want to improve.Â
Stinear on Jackie Parry's six-goal haul
Last week, life was really tough for our forwards, North's defence really got the better of us.
But tonight, Jackie was a beneficiary of a lot of good ball movement and a lot better connection. It was great for Jackie and others, to see them get reward for effort and the way the team was playing.
Our finishing was really strong, but often Jackie was getting opportunities off the back of the hard work up the field. Thrilled for her, even Chantel Emonson who I had coached before, to see her with Luna after the game in the Cats jumper and enjoying that moment together.
There were just a lot of good moments that footy creates, and just happy for the group because last week was a bit rough, but that is footy.Â
