Blockbuster battles do not get any bigger than this, with the third-placed Cats heading west to take on the AFL's benchmark team, the ladder-leading Fremantle Dockers on Thursday night football.

Geelong will be looking to harness the energy and momentum from last week's important victory over Gold Coast, aiming for a fourth consecutive win against Fremantle when the sides kick off the action in Round 15.

With nine wins from 14 games so far this year, the Cats have ascended to third position on the ladder and will be looking to solidify their spot in the top four, with the mid-season bye awaiting next week.

Fremantle have been the measuring stick to this point of the season, holding a 12-1 record to sit atop the ladder after their bye, but their only loss of the season came at the hands of Geelong in Round 1.

The stage is set for one of the biggest games in the home and away season, take a final look ahead to Thursday night's clash, proudly presented by Lee Kum Kee.

TEAM SELECTION

LEE KUM KEE - PIVOTAL MATCH-UP

Connor O'Sullivan v Josh Treacy

He has become the main man in defence for Geelong this year and the one tasked with some of the biggest jobs in football, so do not expect any different as Connor O'Sullivan could potentially go toe-to-toe with Josh Treacy on Thursday.

O'Sullivan has been simply sublime in 2026, leading the Cats for intercept marks (11th in the AFL) and ranking eighth in the competition for total intercept possessions, while also sitting seventh for spoils and helping Geelong's defence to lock down some of the game's best forwards.

Treacy has been brilliant for the Dockers, sitting seventh in the race for the Coleman Medal with 32 goals this year, while also ranking 14th for score involvements, first for contested marks and second for marks inside 50.

With a big frame and standing at 195cm, Treacy is an imposing figure inside 50 or in any contest across the field, so it will be an intriguing contest against the in-form O'Sullivan at Optus Stadium.

VFL

The VFL Cats hit the road this weekend, but while the AFL side head to the far western reaches of the country, the VFL team will head north to take on the Southport Sharks.

Geelong have been absolutely phenomenal so far this year, currently sitting two and a half wins clear on top of the ladder with a 10-1 record, while also holding a percentage of 175.3, which is 58% clear of the next best team in the competition.

The Cats have 155 more points than any other team and have conceded 138 points less than the next best defensively, words can not quite describe just how good Mark Corrigan's team have been in 2026.

This week they face a Southport team that sit in 13th on the ladder with a 5-5 record, the Cats searching for an eighth consecutive victory after downing Gold Coast by 113 points last week.

Geelong's Round 13 VFL match will commence at 12.05pm AEST at Fankhauser Reserve, Cats fans can watch all the action through the AFL app and via afl.com.au.
