50 games is generally the first significant milestone in an AFL career for a young player, a moment to reflect on the journey so far but also look at how much is still to come.

The half century has become the theme for Thursday night's game, with Lawson Humphries and Shaun Mannagh set to play their 50th game, while Tanner Bruhn will also feature in his 50th game for the club.

It is the chance to celebrate the trio and their remarkably distinct stories, each taking an incredibly unique path to this point but all so vital to the Geelong team.

Humphries was selected with the penultimate pick in the 2023 AFL draft, coming across as a relatively unknown defender playing for the Swan Districts in the Western Australian Football League.

While he did not receive much fanfare on arrival, Humphries wasted no time in showing the Geelong and wider footballing communities what he was capable of, dominating at VFL level in the opening half of his inaugural season at the club.

With an incredible demeanour, a calm and level head, sensational decision-making and an abundance of skill on both sides of his body, the dashing defender earned his AFL debut in Round 16 of the 2024 AFL season against Essendon.

There was no turning back, with Humphries featuring in 49 of Geelong's 51 games since that point, immediately cementing his place in the side and becoming one of the most reliable players in the Cats line-up.

He has already received representative honours for the Indigenous All-Stars (2025) and for Western Australia in the AFL Origin match (2026), returning to his home state this week to celebrate his 50th game on Thursday night.

Selected slightly earlier in the same draft, Geelong secured the services of mature-aged recruit Shaun Mannagh with pick 36, who was a standout at VFL level and a crafty player around goal.

Mannagh impressed right away and featured in the first two games of the 2024 season, returning to VFL level to hone his craft with the Cats, before earning a recall in Round 17 and playing out the rest of his debut season with Geelong's AFL team.

After missing the first three weeks of the 2025 season, Mannagh returned to the line-up in Round 4 and has not missed a game since, playing a starring role in some big matches and a number of Finals games along the way.

Despite playing one of the game's more difficult roles, Mannagh has kicked 67 goals from 49 games and been one of Geelong's best goal sources, while also pushing up into the midfield frequently and having an impact around stoppages.

Reaching the AFL and developing into a star player is an achievement in itself for Mannagh, who featured at state-level for a number of years and showed an incredible amount of persistence and resilience, before earning his chance with Geelong.

While Tanner Bruhn's AFL journey did not start at Geelong, he quickly became an integral member of the Hoops after joining the Cats at the end of 2022.

Selected with pick 12 in the 2020 AFL draft, Bruhn spent his first two years at GWS and featured in 30 games, before being traded home to Geelong ahead of the 2023 season.

With an abundance of talent at his disposal, the skilled midfielder played 36 games across his first two seasons with the Cats and displayed plenty of his potential.

After missing last year, he made a scintillating return in 2026 as he collected 31 disposals in the Opening Round, averaging a career-high 21.3 disposals and 5.2 score involvements per game to this point of the season.

The Cats trio will all reach their individual milestones this Thursday night, when Geelong take on Fremantle at Optus Stadium.
