Last week the Geelong Football Club recognised three incredible organisations; Right Mate, The Power In You Porject and Hope Bereavement Care, for their remarkable impact on the local community.

Representatives and volunteers from the organisation had the opportunity to attend Friday's match against the Gold Coast Suns, sitting in the GMHBA Community Bay.

The GMHBA Community Bay has been established to provide local community groups, families and individuals the opportunity to attend a Geelong Cats home game.

During Friday's match, the organisation was also recognised at quarter time with an on-field introduction, along with a video explaining the fantastic work they do.

RIGHT MATE

Right Mate helps men build connection, confidence and mental wellbeing through walks, events, and practical programs delivered in sporting clubs, workplaces and communities.

A Geelong based, self-funded and 100% volunteer run not for profit founded in 2019 by Luke Outerbride and Chris Lytas, Right Mate was established to offer the men across Geelong, The Surfcoast and The Bellarine an opportunity to connect in safe, non-judgmental spaces. With a view to not only build community and social connection, Right Mate also looks to educate in relation to Mental Health, offering practical information taken from the clinical experts in the field, and delivering it in a way that is understandable and relatable.

Right Mate has had the pleasure of working with a number of Geelong Schools, Community Organisations, Sporting Clubs and workplaces and continues to do so, offering tailored workshops specific to the audience.

Their Annual and Major Fundraiser for the year, The Right Mate Race Day, is due to take place on Friday June 19 at Geelong Racing Club, with tickets still available via the Right Mate Website, along with opportunities to support via sponsorship and prizes for the live auction and raffle. https://www.rightmate.org.au/

THE POWER IN YOU PROJECT

The Power In You Project is a not for profit organisation supporting participants who voluntarily choose to engage. Three entry points of support are offered: Disability and NDIS Support, Justice Clients and Addiction Support.

The Power In You Project uses an holistic approach to focus on the addictive patterns and behaviours which impede positive actions, relationships and lifestyles. Participants develop self esteem, self awareness, community connections and independence through a weekly timetable addressing fitness, therapeutic programs and peer support workshops in a safe and structured environment.

Participants have opportunity to partake in programs seven days per week, including, but not limited to Addiction Support, Emotional Fundamentals, Mental Health, Living Skills, Mindfulness, Self Defence, Boxing, Art Therapy and Women’s Group.

HOPE BEREAVEMENT CARE

Grief is a private experience.  It is also a public health issue that touches individuals, families, workplaces and entire communities.

Hope Bereavement Care (Hope) has been responding to this need for 40 years by providing,  compassionate  grief support for people of all ages and circumstances, including Mothers and Babies, Kids Grieve Too, Support After Suicide, general bereavement, through counselling, support groups, education and community programs.

Thanks to the generous support of the Geelong community, these services are provided free of charge, ensuring access to the right support when needed most. At its heart, Hope exists so that no one in our community has to be alone in grief.

The images you see represent the work of Hope, in the community raising awareness and providing opportunities to come together to remember and honour the memories and ongoing connection we hold to those we love. As well as fundraising to ensure Hope can continue to be there for those who need bereavement grief support.
