Last week the Geelong Football Club recognised the Queenscliff Coastguard for the substantial impact they have had on the local community.
Representatives and volunteers from the organisation had the opportunity to attend Saturday's match against North Melbourne, sitting in the GMHBA Community Bay.
The GMHBA Community Bay has been established to provide local community groups, families and individuals the opportunity to attend a Geelong Cats home game.
During Saturday's match, the organisation was also recognised at quarter time with an on-field introduction, along with a video explaining the fantastic work they do.
Queenscliff Coastguard
The incredible Queenscliff Coast Guard, VF9, part of the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard, protects the waters across Port Phillip Bay, the Heads, and Bass Strait.
Working in some of the toughest conditions imaginable, the highly skilled crew stands ready to respond at a moment’s notice. And here is the amazing part - every single member is a volunteer!
On call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, they work alongside Victoria Water Police to carry out vital marine search and rescue missions, keeping the boating community safe.
With powerful tides, rough seas, and unpredictable conditions, it is a true test of skill. From capsizes to serious incidents, the volunteers do not hesitate, heading straight in to help.
This year Queenscliff Coast Guard celebrates 50 years as a marine search and rescue service.
