If anyone needed a gentle reminder of how good Jack Bowes is at football, they only need to rewind the tape on Friday night as he delivered a performance for the ages under lights at GMHBA Stadium.
Playing predominantly through the midfield while also spending short stints across half back, the classy Cat amassed a game-high 38 disposals against Box Hill, finding the footy nine more times than the next best player on the ground.
Able to impose himself around stoppages, Bowes finished with six clearances and five tackles while also able to read the play defensively, pushing back to pick off five intercept possessions.
If that was not enough, the 28 year old added a lazy three goals and eight inside 50 entries, putting the Hawks to the sword as Geelong cruised to a 47 point victory in Round 2 of the VFL season.
Bowes gave credit to his fellow on-ballers for the Cats' dominant showing on Friday night, with a number of experienced players stamping their authority on the contest.
"I am just trying to build my game at the moment," Bowes told Cats Media.
"I thought there was plenty of great individual performances, but most importantly I thought our midfield group, particularly over those first three quarters was outstanding.
"Rhys [Stanley] gave us first use in there, I thought Worpel's pressure around the footy was outstanding. George [Stevens] and 'Knev' [Mitch Knevitt] have been super as well the last couple of weeks.
"I think we have got some good connection in there, it is going a long way to helping us win games."
Bowes also complimented the impact that Jake Kolodjashnij has had early in the year, as the premiership defender works his way back from an injury interrupted 2025 season.
"'Kola' has been a super teammate," Bowes said.
"He has been outstanding down there, in the air he was super with his contest and it is good to see him getting back to playing his best footy.
"He has obviously had a frustrating year or so with his injuries, but to see him out there going well is great.
"It is not only today, the last two or three weeks he has been super and I am sure he is putting his hand up to get back into the senior team."
Geelong's VFL side led by 70 points at three quarter time in their clash with Box Hill, before cruising to a 47 point victory on Friday night.
They finished with a total of 123 points despite being held goalless in the final term, following on from the 163 points they scored in Round 1 against Essendon.
Geelong sit on top of the ladder through the opening fortnight of the season, with Bowes noting that changes to their game plan and rules have led to a faster paced and higher scoring brand of football.
"I think it is a combination of that, the brand we are playing and the new rules," Bowes said.
"The lasso rule, the last possession out of bounds and the stand rule as well.
"I think our forwards are playing well up there, a lot of different goal kickers. 'Cap' [Dan Capiron] was super early tonight, he was on fire and it was nice to see a few of our mids get on the board as well.
"We got forward and put the opposition's midfielders under pressure, making them defend too."
