Geelong Football Club congratulates Director Barry Fagg after he was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) on Monday.

The Order of Australia recognises Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional achievement, providing a chance to recognise select individuals for their hard work and dedication.

A successful Geelong businessman and lifelong Cats supporter, Barry Fagg joined the Geelong Football Club board in 2020 and was appointed as a director.

Barry and his brother Keith managed and developed their family business, Fagg’s Mitre 10 from 1980 for over three decades, before the business became a joint venture company in 2012.

Successful businessman and Cats member Barry Fagg will chair the Geelong Cats Foundation board.

But Barry’s impact stretched to all corners of his local community, including his work with Anam Cara House Geelong as an Ambassador. He also served as President and Campaign Director of Give Where You Live, was the inaugural Director of the Geelong Community Foundation, along with stints at the Geelong Art Gallery and Geelong College School Council.

The Medal of the Order of Australia is well-deserved recognition for Barry, who has also previously been awarded a Centenary of Federation Medal (2001) and the Committee for Geelong’s annual Leadership Award (2012).

AFL Commission Chairman Richard Goyder said the game acknowledged all those volunteer contributors around Australia who were recognised for their service to others today, and said Australian football was delighted that a number of long-term volunteers at community level, as well as contributors at senior state league level and volunteer directors for clubs in the AFL national competition, had also been honoured.

"The success of Australian football around the country is built on the service of volunteers, who give their time for others,” Mr Goyder said.

“I also wish to congratulate Sydney Swans patron Basil Sellers, former Darwin Buffaloes Club President Frank Ahmat, Geelong Cats director Barry Fagg, Woodville / West Torrens Club President Christine Williams and former AFL executive Tanya Hosch for recognition of their outstanding contributions,” he said.

The Geelong Football Club would like to congratulate Barry on receiving a Medal of the Order of Australia, and thank him for his incredible service to the club and the community.
