Geelong's big win over the GWS Giants was more than just a chance to gather momentum, with the victory also keeping the Cats' Finals hopes alive with three games remaining in the home and away season.

Now sitting one game and percentage outside the top eight, Geelong will head west this weekend for a pivotal clash with West Coast, a chance to draw level on points with the final spot in the post-season action.

There is still plenty to play out and other results will need to fall their way, but the Cats simply need to keep on winning over the next three weeks to give themselves a chance of returning to Finals.

Take a look at a full breakdown of what is still to come for the Cats over the remainder of the home and away season.

Current Ladder

As things currently stand, the most likely outcome is that it will be a four-way fight for eighth spot on the ladder heading into the final three weeks.

West Coast currently occupy eighth position, but it will be a proverbial eight-point game as Geelong heads interstate to take on the Eagles this Friday night.

St Kilda and Carlton also square off this week so expect one of those teams to fall back into the logjam, while Geelong have currently got Fremantle covered on percentage.

The best Geelong can finish on is 28 points, meaning they will most likely need to secure some big wins to boost their own percentage heading towards Finals.

POSITION TEAM POINTS PERCENTAGE
6 Carlton 24 107.3
7 St Kilda 24 105.9
8 West Coast 20 117.2
9 Sydney 20 117.0
10 Geelong 16 98.8
11 Fremantle 16 68.1

What Is To Come

Round 10 - West Coast v Geelong at Sullivan Logistics Stadium

The first task on Geelong's to-do-list is knocking off the West Coast Eagles in Round 10, when they travel to Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Friday night.

It will be no easy feat, with the Eagles currently occupying eighth position after winning five of their first nine games this season, putting together a number of strong performances as the year has progressed.

The Cats were able to knock off West Coast in a similar position and time last season, needing to produce another strong result on Friday night to keep their Finals hopes alive.

Round 11 - Western Bulldogs v Geelong at Mars Stadium

If Geelong can claim victory over the Eagles on Friday night, attention will quickly turn to Round 11 when the Cats head to Ballarat for a clash with the Western Bulldogs.

The Cats have won their previous two clashes with the Bulldogs, but they also have not faced them since the opening round of the 2023 season, with the Dogs still in the hunt for Finals action in their own right.

Round 12 - Geelong v Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium

Provided they can overcome the first two challenges, it will then all boil down to a Saturday night blockbuster at the Cattery against Melbourne in Round 12.

Another contest that will require Geelong's best, the Demons have been one of the competition's strongest teams this year, winning seven of their opening eight games and currently sitting in third place on the ladder.

The equation is pretty simple for the Cats; win all three games and give themselves the best possible opportunity of securing a spot in Finals.
