Miers on his off-season travels

I ticked half the world off.

I started in Vietnam, then went over to Hong Kong. Then came back to Australia, went over to Canada and finished in Hawaii.

Random and I don't think anyone else has done that process of countries in a row, but it was a great little course that I did.

Miers on the start of pre-season

It is always that exciting time of year where you get back to Australia after your holidays, you just want to get back into a routine and get back into having a purpose.

Excited to be back and excited to attack 2026 again, with some new faces.

Miers on whether 2025 is motivating him

It does and it doesn't. It depends how you use it, everyone has their own different motivational factors.

I remember in 2020, I spoke in a press conference about how I will never forget losing that. It might help me win another premiership, but I will always feel like that is one that got away.

I feel like this one again, I am grateful I got to win one in between, but I won't feel like that wasn't an opportunity lost.

It doesn't mean that I won't be trying again, because I love football and I love winning and we will be trying to get that ultimate success again.

But I am very disappointed that we let that one go and we didn't win that one, so it will always in the back of my mind but I will try to use it as motivation also.

Miers on how he has continually improved

Changes and I think the help of my teammates. The help of the coaches, putting me in new roles and seeing the way I have adapted, then my role changing over time.

A bit of midfield time at the end of last year, because I think that is what the team needed at the time. Then this year we have added James Worpel, so maybe that will push me back to half forward, maybe out to a wing, maybe I will stay there, I don't know.

But that is the exciting part, is that I think I am adaptable and can play in any of those positions to contribute.

Then I don't rely on one thing and my team doesn't rely on one thing, so very pleased that's how my career has gone. I am not stuck in one position or stuck in one role.

Miers on reuniting with James Worpel

It has been great in the last week or so being with him.

We had dinner when I first got back to Australia, it was kind of that feeling when you see an old mate again where nothing has changed, even though you have been apart from each other.

I think the way that he is going to bring the leadership and that barrier between our 30-year-olds and the young boys, we kind of need a little bit more support in that area.

As an inside mid he will help to take the bruises, but also lead the boys and I think he ticks all those boxes for us.
