Rebecca Webster is set to play her 50th AFLW game this weekend against Brisbane, reaching the milestone in just her sixth season at the top level with the Cats.

The 23 year old has developed into a star in the blue and white hoops, averaging a career high 19 disposals and 310 metres gained per game across the 2023 season.

‘Becky’ as she is more affectionately known, follows Julia Crockett-Grills and Meg McDonald to become the third player to reach 50 AFLW games for Geelong.

Webster was drafted by Geelong prior to their inaugural AFLW season in 2019, after playing with the Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup and Melbourne University’s VFLW team.

Taking no time to make her mark, the young midfielder made her debut in the opening round of the 2019 season against Collingwood at GMHBA Stadium.

Webster was selected to the AFLPA’s 22Under22 team twice early in her career, emerging as a leader for Geelong both on and off the field while displaying her potential through the middle.

Cats teammate Mikayla Bowen spoke about Webster during the week, describing the incredible impact she has both on and off the field.

"She means absolutely everything, you will get different answers from every player but they will all be along the lines of how incredible Becky is,” Bowen told Cats Media.

“I have been extremely fortunate to know Becky a lot longer than just these past two seasons, I went through the AFLW academy journey with her and have been very close with her ever since.

"Obviously, now I am extremely grateful to be part of this club alongside her, she is an energiser for the group both on the field and off it.

"She is an absolute laugh and such a caring human being, then on field she gives us exactly what we need in terms of intensity and the way we want to hit the contest.

"I am super stoked for Becky and hopefully we can get it done for her this weekend."

After missing the opening three weeks of the 2023 season, Webster returned in round four against Port Adelaide in a new role across half back.

Averaging career best numbers across the regular season, the 23 year old played a pivotal role in Geelong’s first AFLW finals win, as she amassed 23 disposals in the elimination final victory over Essendon.

Webster was again amongst the best players on the ground last Sunday against Melbourne, picking up 19 possessions as the Cats progressed to the penultimate week of the season.

Becky Webster will bring up her 50th AFLW game this Saturday night, as the Cats battle the Lions for a spot in the 2023 AFLW Grand Final.
