Kelly on the last two weeks
I think we are progressing pretty well and we are still in a reasonable spot.
We obviously would have liked to have won those games, particularly executing better in the final couple of minutes of both games. Both of those games, we missed the execution in different facets.
Every late game scenario can be a bit different, but with those things we always like to think we address them during the week and learn from them. Hopefully we are not in that position again, hopefully there is a bit more of a buffer at the end of the game.
There was some improvement from the Carlton game to the Adelaide game last week around the ball, contest, defence was much better compared to the Carlton game.
Maybe we didn't score as efficiently as we normally do in the Adelaide game, which is a credit to them. Their defenders played really well and kept their backline pretty stable. We aren't jumping at shadows with one or two losses, and just keep moving forward.
Kelly on Tom Stewart
It is huge, you don't need to talk too much about 'Stewy' and how important he is for us, and how good a player he is.
One of the privileges that we have as coaches is that Stewy has a couple of weeks or whatever it ends up being, and Lawson comes straight back in.
That is the good thing for us, we bring in another really good player and another really important cog in our backline.
We will work through everything with Stewy, I tend to not get too involved with that stuff. But just for the moment, Lawson comes back in so it is good for us.
Kelly on whether the thinking changes around Sam De Koning
It is a really good question, it sort of does.
One of the things when we have used DK, is we have used him at centre bounce and then he ends up behind the ball a lot. Or, we will play him as a defender and get him to ruck in defensive 50.
But certainly the way he played, and it wasn't just on the weekend, his ruck form has been building over time.
I think he had 11 clearances and his follow up work in the centre bounces was brilliant, so it does make us think a little bit differently about it. Mitch Edwards is obviously connected to that conversation as well.
What is does for us and for DK is that it gives us confidence that wherever we put him, we know that we can get a really good level of play from him. Hopefully that gives him a lot of confidence and we really trust him, we trust his performance behind the ball especially.
Kelly on what the Cats learned from Opening Round
It's not irrelevant, no. I think one of the things with the Gold Coast is that they have got their gun players and their really good core of players, then they have a really sound system.
One of the things with those teams is that while there is always changes along the way, you can learn a bit.
That is most of your job as an assistant, is to go back through old stuff and look at new stuff, stats, what did they change last week or last month and present that to Scotty, so he can bring it all together.
We go back and have a look at it, certainly our contest and our defence wasn't good enough. But we probably spend a bit more time looking at Round 14 or 15 last year down here, where we played really well and there were some really good match-ups around the ball.
We take a little bit more from that one as assistants because it was a better result, but that is the function of an assistant coach.
Kelly on Tyson Stengle
That is another thing that we have to work through over the next 24 hours.
But seeing how he has been coming back into the club, and the work that he has done to get himself back to this point is awesome.
We love Tyson and he is a brilliant person to have around the footy club, he is a bit cheeky and a bit funny.
So it is good to see him back out on the track and just enjoying life. If footy follows that, we are really happy for him.
