GEELONG made it back-to-back victories with a 26-point win against Carlton at the MCG on Saturday.

Here are the statistics that matter presented by Deakin’s Centre for Sport Research.

Max Effort, Max Reward

There are few better moments than seeing a player kick their first career goal, so it was great to see first-year Cat Max Holmes put on the jets to beat his opponent and register what’s hopefully the first of many six-pointers.

It was highly deserved too with Holmes bringing the heat at the ‘G with a game-high 25 pressure acts, getting max reward for the effort he put in for the Cats.

Super Stewart

He’s becoming a regular in this weekly segment, but Tom Stewart is on another level this season and had a very strong outing against the Blues.

Stewart put on an aerial assault with a game-high 12 marks. He also won 25 disposals and provided plenty of dash off half back launching two goals for the Cats.

Here's how he ranks in the competition to date. Surely, a third All Australian blazer will be coming his way.

1st in the competition for marks
3rd in the competition for kicks
3rd in the competition for effective kicks
4th in the competition for intercept marks
7th in the competition for intercepts
7th in the competition for rebound 50s
8th in the competition for metres gained
1st at Geelong (23rd overall) for score launches

Round 17 Showreel

General Guthrie

For as long as most can remember it has been Joel Selwood’s team, but you could mount a case that there is a new midfield general in Cam Guthrie.

In the absence of the skipper, Guthrie was tough and led from the front with his work ethic and actions inside.

He amassed 28 disposals and was Geelong’s leading clearance winner with six.

Tuoh Good

Another Cat that was named in Geelong's best was Zach Tuohy.

The Irishman was superb playing his 100th game in the hoops with two crucial goals and 24 touches.

He's currently in the midst of a purple patch of form averaging 25 touches and a goal per game in the past month of football, helping fill the void of Mitch Duncan.

Higgins Building

When the game needed a match winner in the second half Shaun Higgins' class shone through with 16 of his 25 possessions coming in the final two quarters.

Converted an important set shot late in the third term and is building nicely into his season with six rounds remaining before finals.
