After a breakthrough season, midfielder Amy McDonald has been named the AFLW Fan MVP, presented by Viva Energy.

The 23-year-old took her game to great heights in what was just her second season in the AFL Women’s competition.

McDonald averaged 19.6 disposals, 7.2 tackles and 4.2 clearances a game as she led the way for the Cats through the midfield.

Her brilliant performances weren’t lost on Cats fans, who voted for her time and time again throughout the season as the Fan MVP.

To determine the overall winner of the award, the players who received the most fan votes each week were ranked on a 5-1 basis, with the player who attracted the most fan votes awarded 5 votes, and the player with the fifth-most votes awarded 1 vote.

McDonald was the clear winner, with four 5-vote performances among her 32 votes. She featured in the top-five votes in eight out of nine rounds.

There was a three-way tie for second, with captain Meg McDonald, Olivia Purcell and Julia Crockett-Grills all receiving 17 votes.

Emerging midfielder Becky Webster finished fifth with 14 votes.

Each week throughout the home and away season, Cats fans were invited to cast their vote for that week’s MVP. All entries went into a draw to win a prize valued at $250. The winner of the draw was Michelle Johnstone from Leopold.
