2021 has started off in style for the Cats with the club smashing through 50,000 members whilst also setting their own record for AFLW members.

With the theme of Geelong Strong front and centre for the Cats 2021 membership campaign, the members have shown to be just that.

2020 showed how much the Club means to members despite not being able to cheer the AFL team on live. The show of support from members was something the Club will never forget.

And on the back of a season that went down to the last half of the last game of the season, Cats members are renewing in droves, already crossing 50,0000 prior to the AFL season starting.

A big reason for this number has been the growth of the AFLW membership which has reached 1958, a more than 20% increase on the previous AFLW membership record.

Geelong Cats chief commercial officer, Braith Cox, said the Club was extremely grateful for the show of support from members so far in 2021.

“Last year was an incredibly difficult year for us as a club and also our members.” Cox said.

“Despite our Victorian members not having access to live games last season, they stayed true and supported the club however they could.”

“For that we are forever grateful, and we are in the process of providing our 2020 members with the recognition for this selfless act.

“Not all of our members are the same and expect the same recognition or benefits for being a Cats member, so we want to make sure that we have options for everyone to be a member of our club no matter their circumstances.

Cox said the Club was understanding of members’ changed circumstances due to the pandemic and the Club had numerous options to allow flexibility in their membership product this year.

“Not just due to the pandemic but also where we are heading to with our membership program, we want people to be able to still be a Cats member no matter their circumstance.” Cox said.

“This might include monthly payment plans, the ability for people to transition from a non-access membership to an access membership during the season, our Melbourne 5 membership which gives access to both home and away games in Melbourne and many more options across all our products.”

With optimism growing for full crowds in 2021, Cox said it was important to sign up as a member at the moment to have access to games in the early part of the season.

“We cannot wait to have a full capacity GMHBA Stadium this season and we are confident will we have it, but at the moment we encourage our fans to sign up as members to make sure they don’t miss out on a ticket to a home game at GMHBA Stadium or the MCG.
