Josh Walker spoke to Cats TV after the Cats’ impressive 66-point win over the Eagles at Patersons Stadium in which he picked up seven touches, five tackles and a goal.

“It’s getting towards the business end of the year and we want to start playing our best footy for as long as we can regardless of where we are and our position.

“I think we made good progress on that tonight and the first three quarters were really good.”

Walker came up against Dean Cox, one of the best ruckman of the last 20 years and says he was the main focus of preparation during the week.

“For myself and the other young guys we are really lucky in that we’ve got Brad Ottens and Hamish McIntosh who work with us all throughout the week.

“We watch countless edits and come up with a bit of a plan as to what we’re going to do.

“It’s really just about trying to use our strengths against his weaknesses and he might win against us in the air but if we can move him around the ground a bit more we can get a bit of an advantage.”

Walker enjoyed working in a ruck team with Mark Blicavs and Nathan Vardy, allowing more frequent rotations.

“It became really easy to rotate with three of us.

“It always seemed like one of the other two were close by the stoppage if you couldn’t get there or vice-versa so I think it worked really well.”

After a strange start to the game with the team bus breaking down, the Cats were ultimately forced to catch taxis to the ground.

“So the bus wasn’t working for some reason and myself, Travvy  Varcoe, Mack and Vards were dropped what felt like about two kilometres from the ground and had to walk in so it was an interesting start.”

In another strange turn of events, Walker was informed on arrival to Patersons Stadium that his short sleeved jumper was left back in Geelong.

“I could play in long sleeves which I’ve never done in my life or we could cut the sleeves off and go with whatever we’ve come up with here.”
