Cats captain, Joel Selwood, has spoken to teammate Steve Johnson about receiving his second consecutive suspension for an unruly contact on Fremantle’s Hayden Ballantyne, during Saturday night’s NAB Cup clash.

Speaking with News Limited, Selwood said he had taken a stand as captain and recognised that this sort of conduct must not perpetuate.
He alluded that changes must be made to make sure it stops, and such situations are eliminated from play.

‘’They’re just little snaps but even in saying that, those snaps have got to go,” Selwood said

“As a footy club we’ve just got to make sure that we don’t put ourselves in those positions.’’

Selwood had spoken to Johnson and has expressed his disappointment in regards to his last two events that have both resulted in suspension.

‘’We spoke to him, absolutely, ‘’

Johnson is as disappointed than anyone and knows he needs to amend the way he responds during the heat of the moment.

‘’(We’re) just disappointed in him and he knows he needs to change. He’s more disappointed than anyone.

‘’He’s disappointed in what he’s done and he’s said to us that he needs to change.’’

Johnson has accepted his charge and will miss the first round of the season against Hawthorn.
