Small forward Danielle Higgins has been named in this week’s AFLW Team of the Week for her standout performance against the Crows in Round 3.

The 29-year-old was arguably Geelong’s best player scoring two goals and collecting a team-high 19 disposals.

Higgins also took four marks and laid five tackles in the Cats’ 11-point loss to Adelaide on Sunday evening.

The forwards’ performance was also recognised in the AFL Coaches Association’s votes for the round where she was awarded six votes.

Higgins was joined by defender Maddy McMahon and midfielder Olivia Purcell who both polled one vote each.

It’s the second time Purcell has featured in the coaches votes having received five votes for her opening game against Fremantle.

The AFL Coaches Association AFLW Champion Player of the Year is an award voted by the AFLW senior coaches on a 5,4,3,2,1 basis after each home and away game, acknowledging outstanding effort to an individual player in a season.
