Geelong’s Mia Skinner will miss the 2020 AFLW season, officially declared an unavailable player due to a stress reaction in her femur.

The 19-year-old will focus on her rehabilitation with the aim of returning to football in the VFLW season for Geelong.

Gemma Wright has also made the decision to step away from Geelong’s AFLW program for the upcoming season due to mental health reasons.

The club will continue to support both players throughout the season ahead.

Elise Coventry will become the club’s upgraded train on player. The defender was an AFLW listed player in 2019 but ruptured her ACL in a practice match prior to Round One last year.

Coventry has continued her rehabilitation and training at the club, and will only be eligible for selection at AFLW level if the club is unable to meet the requirement of having a full team plus two emergencies available for selection (23 players).
