WHO… Else but Gary Ablett

Ablett put on a spectacular show against the Eagles, tallying a career high five goal assists with eight inside 50s and 28 disposals. His hands were cleaner than a butler’s silverware. Even with his role change this season, Ablett is having an obvious impact on Geelong’s forward line and their ball movement inside 50.

WHAT… A difference a week off can make

Charlie Constable’s week off brought him back fit and firing for Geelong’s match up with the reigning premiers. He produced some beautiful ball work through the middle of the ground, while nailing a set shot delivered to him by the little master. One of team’s brightest young players, Chook earned that week off just as he’s earned his place in the Cats’ best 22.

WHEN… You have two elite midfielders take 7+ tackles each

You’ll find yourself with some bragging rights over the other positional coaches. Tim Kelly and Patrick Dangerfield amassed almost 20 combined tackles for the night as they highlighted the defensive aspects of their game. In an era that revolves around on-ball pressure, Danger and TK have acclimatised well.

WHERE… Would you like it Gary?

From one Gary to another, Rohan and Ablett were in perfect sync during the first quarter. Rohan kicked three snags in the first period, two of which came in a period of three minutes as set shots thanks to the little master. The new recruit showed how he can use his speed to lead into space and break away from defenders.

WHY…  Mark ‘The Shark’ O’Connor has a very promising future

This young defender is having a stellar season with the misfits of Geelong, as they’ve held onto the mantle as the strongest defence in the league. O’Connor turned defenders inside out, he tore up the wing with pin-point kicks and denied West Coast multiple goals with perfect decision making. Do not be surprised if he finishes within Geelong’s top 10 best and fairest this year.
