The Geelong Cats have made three key AFLW signings, with Hayley Trevean, Mia-Rae Clifford and Hannah Burchell signing on for 2019.

Hayley Trevean was a member of the Cats first ever women’s team, debuting in VFLW against Box Hill in the opening game of the 2017 season.

Over the past two seasons she has played 18 games in the navy and white hoops over two seasons. Trevean debuted at AFLW level with Carlton in 2017, and originally hails from Bendigo where she played with the Bendigo Thunder.

Mia-Rae Clifford joined the Cats VFL program after a long career with St Kilda Sharks.

Clifford has booted 14 goals in 14 games this season in helping the Cats to the finals for the first time. She played all seven games with Melbourne in the inaugural AFLW season.

Hannah Burchell has also worn the Cats gurensey for the past two seasons. Burchell has played all 28 games that Cats have contested in VFLW, and has kicked 11 goals. An Ocean Grove local, Burchell is training to be a paramedic.

Geelong’s AFLW Coach Paul Hood said the club is excited to welcome the latest AFLW signings into the group.

“Hayley brings AFLW experience, terrific skill and competitiveness to our group.

“Hayley has set the tone amongst our program for contested possession and forward pressure in her time so far, she has a great football brain and puts her teammates first on and off the field,” Hood said.

“Mia-Rae brings a wealth of experience from her time at Melbourne’s AFLW side and the St Kilda Sharks.

“A passionate Geelong fan, Mia-Rae wears her heart on her sleeve on game day and has developed this season into a terrific contested forward threat with the rare ability to win the ball in the air, on the lead and on the ground.

“Her goal scoring this season has knocked down the door for her AFLW squad selection.

“Hannah is a highly skilled outside midfielder with terrific two-way running abilities. She is also just as comfortable supporting the defence as she is getting forward to create scoring opportunities.

“At a young age, we look forward to many seasons in the hoops from Hannah.”
