Geelong have produced an electric and entertaining brand of football in the 2026 AFLW season, and the stats certainly back that up.Â
With an increased scoring prowess, the Cats have marched to second position on the ladder heading into the final game of the home-and-away season, with the chance to secure a top-two finish on Friday night.Â
After falling to North Melbourne in their season opener, Geelong have reeled off 10 consecutive wins and have already locked in a spot in the top four.Â
They may already be in the midst of a record-breaking season, but the Cats have the opportunity to secure another slice of history on Friday night.Â
So far in the 2026 home-and-away season, Geelong have scored a total of 783 points at an average of 71.2 points per game, comfortably the highest in the competition this year.Â
It has been set up by five scores of 80 points or more, including a season-high of 100 points in their Round 2 victory over St Kilda.Â
In fact, after being held to 27 points in Round 1 by the Kangaroos, Geelong have not registered another score lower than 54 points, highlighting their incredible consistency from an offensive standpoint.Â
Heading into Round 12, they will have the chance to become the highest scoring team in a home-and-away season in AFLW history.Â
The record they are chasing down was set by North Melbourne last year, who finished the regular season with 868 total points at an average of 72.3 points per game.Â
That will mean that the Cats will need to score 85 points on Friday night to tie the record, or 86 points to eclipse it when they face the Western Bulldogs.Â
North Melbourne are the only team in AFLW history to average more than 70 points per game across a home-and-away season, with the Cats on track to become the second team at the conclusion of this week.Â
Along with North Melbourne, Melbourne are the only other team to finish a regular season averaging more than 60 points per game, which occurred in 2023 when they averaged 65.3 points per game across 10 matches.
To finish the home-and-away season with an average of 70 points per game, the Cats need to score 57 points or more against the Western Bulldogs on Friday night.Â
It has been led by an even contribution from a number of different players, with Jackie Parry (21 goals), Chloe Scheer (20 goals) and Aishling Moloney (16 goals) all ranked in the AFLW's top 10 goalkickers this year.Â
Of course, the primary objective for Geelong will be their attempt to secure a top-two finish and the right to host a Qualifying Final, but this little slice of history would be a remarkable achievement for the red-hot Cats in 2026.Â
