Geelong coach Chris Scott and stalwart Mark Blicavs will again etch their names into the record books on Thursday night, with the duo set to break a long-standing V/AFL record when the Cats take on Fremantle at Optus Stadium.
The record in question is the most games by a player and coach combination, with Scott and Blicavs set to be involved in their 307th game together during Geelong's Round 15 clash.
It eclipses the previous record of 306 games, which was held by Jock McHale and Gordon Coventry and has stood since the conclusion of the 1937 VFL season, when Coventry called time on his illustrious career.
Both Scott and Blicavs' tenure at Geelong has been remarkable and their longevity has been a feature, with the pair playing key roles in some of the Cats' greatest moments over the last 15 years.
Scott took the reins as Geelong's head coach at the conclusion of 2010, leading the Cats to a premiership in his first season and another in 2022.
With 374 games at the helm, Scott sits 18th on the all-time V/AFL leaderboard for the most games coached, now into his 16th season at Kardinia Park.
Along the journey, he has achieved incredible and sustained success with a 68.32% win rate, the highest rate of any coach with 140 games or more in charge.
During his first 15 years at the club, the Cats have only missed Finals twice and have made it to at least a Preliminary Final on 10 occasions, consistently competing at the pointy end of the competition.
Remarkably, since Scott took over as Geelong's head coach, there have been 74 individuals across the competition to coach at least one game, while the Cats have had the same leader throughout that entire period.
Mark Blicavs made his AFL debut on Easter Monday in the 2013 season and despite not having played football for some time, quickly adapted and became one of Geelong's most important players.
He set the footballing world alight with his versatility and is widely considered one of the best utilities to have ever played the game, having spent considerable time in the ruck, through the midfield, on the wing and in defence.
It took just three years at the elite level for Blicavs to win his first Carji Greeves Medal (2015), before winning another in 2018.
The versatile Cat also made the All-Australian team in 2022, before becoming a premiership player in Geelong's triumph over Sydney on the last Saturday in September.
Earlier this year, Blicavs became just the eighth player in Geelong Football Club history to reach 300 games, now getting set for his 307th game on Thursday night.
Blicavs has remarkably played his entire career under the tutelage of Chris Scott, with the pair set to feature in their 307th game together this week, breaking the long-standing record previously held by Jock McHale and Gordon Coventry.
The record will be eclipsed on Thursday night as Geelong head west to take on Fremantle in a blockbuster clash at Optus Stadium, with the Cats looking to build on last week's victory over the Gold Coast Suns.
Cats fans can catch all the action on Channel 7, Fox Footy or Kayo, with the match set to commence at 8.10pm AEST.
