In a nail-biting finish under Friday night lights, Geelong's VFLW side pulled off a stunning one-point upset over the Western Bulldogs.

The Cats entered Friday night's clash looking to cause an upset against a Bulldogs side sitting eighth on the ladder.

The Bulldogs started strongly, applying relentless forward-half pressure from the opening bounce to kick the first goal of the game and set the tone early. Geelong remained composed and responded with excellent ball movement through the middle of the ground, with Nikita Harris converting the Cats' first major at the 13-minute mark to level the scores. The Bulldogs steadied late in the quarter, adding another goal to take a narrow lead into the first break.

Geelong came out with intent in the second term, locking the ball inside forward 50 and applying plenty of pressure. Despite controlling large portions of play, the Cats were unable to convert that dominance into scoreboard reward. A costly turnover at half-back allowed the Bulldogs to transition quickly and kick a goal, extending their lead to 13 points.

The Cats responded immediately through Jess Canavan, who kicked a crucial goal to keep her side within striking distance. The momentum swung again when Isabella Davies delivered a brilliant kick following clean ball movement, finding Hayley Peck in space. Peck took a strong mark and converted, making it two consecutive goals for Geelong and reducing the Bulldogs' advantage to just one point at half-time.

At the main break, the possession count reflected the tight nature of the contest, with Geelong recording 118 disposals to the Bulldogs' 119. Isabella Davies led all players with 15 disposals, while Melanie Staunton continued her strong form with 11 and Bindi Crabtree worked hard through the midfield with nine.

O'Kane struck early in the third quarter with a clever snap to hand Geelong its first lead of the game. What followed was a fierce, contested battle, with both sides applying immense pressure around the ball and creating a high-stoppage quarter. The Cats held their nerve throughout the arm wrestle and took a two-point advantage into the final term.

The Bulldogs responded quickly in the last quarter, kicking a goal within the opening two minutes to reclaim the lead. From there, Geelong controlled possession and kept the ball locked inside its forward 50 for much of the quarter, but missed opportunities threatened to prove costly. The Cats registered four behinds in the final term as the contest remained on a knife's edge, with the scores level at 29 apiece inside the final five minutes.

In a tense finish, O'Kane added a crucial behind at the 18-minute mark to give Geelong a one-point lead. It proved to be the decisive score in a game decided by the finest of margins.

Melanie Staunton was immense all day, finishing with 22 disposals, 11 tackles and three clearances, while Annie Lee was outstanding across half-back with 20 disposals and eight marks, providing important rebound. Isabella Davies also impressed with 20 disposals, eight tackles and six clearances, helping drive the Cats forward throughout the final quarter.
