Second-year ball magnet Charlie Constable will look to boost his aerobic capacity in an effort to earn the senior selection that escaped him in the back half of 2019.

Constable played seven of the first nine games of the season as the Cats jumped out of the blocks to start the year, before seeing out the remainder of 2019 in the VFL.

The former 36th overall draft selection says he’s happy in Geelong and ready to kick-start season three in the league with a strong off-season.

“I did see a bit of that (rumours of a trade), but I don’t know where that’s come from,” Constable told the Geelong Advertiser.

“I am just focused on going away, getting fitter and trying to get into the team for next year.”

Constable says his exit meeting with the club centred on the need to continue working on his endurance base.

“It was all about just building my tank and being able to get to each contest as quickly as possible. And also to keep playing to my strengths as best as possible,” he said.

“But I guess that starts after this — getting a lot of running in, getting fitter and stronger and seeing how we go.”

Constable is hopeful the Cats can push into the top echelon of teams again in 2020.

“Hopefully the club will be in a successful position come September next year as well and hopefully I am a part of that,” he said.

“It was a bit frustrating that I couldn’t play, but at the same time I understood where I was at. We have a lot of good players in there.”

“Hopefully it goes my way next year. But it was a good year for learning, I reckon.”
