GEELONG defender Tom Stewart says the club couldn’t be clearer on the task that lies in front of it.

The Cats will need to secure three wins in three consecutive MCG encounters to achieve what it set out to do at the start of this finals campaign.

“It just makes the equation for us a lot easier I suppose. Scotty addressed it earlier in the week and said the equation is the exact same as it was last week,” he said.

“We win three games at the ‘G and that’s premiership success. It’s as simple as that.”

“We know that if we play our best footy that it’s right up there. It’s just a matter of getting our processes right and playing to the way think we think our strengths suggest. That’s how we’re going to attack this week.”

The first hurdle the Cats will have to overcome is last year’s grand final victors, fresh off a 55-point elimination final victory and eye-catching return of dynamic ruckman Nic Naitanui.

Geelong will be hoping to replicate its 58-point victory over the Eagles that came in round six at GMHBA Stadium – the last time the two clubs met.

“West Coast are obviously the reigning premiers so it’s going to be a fantastic way to see where we’re at and obviously it’s do or die so it’s what we’ve got to keep it down to.

“We can’t wait for them to throw the first punch per se, it’s just being ready to take a few chances and just be up for the fight.

The first quarter will be crucial in determining the outcome of the match, with the Cats struggling to find their groove early in past season-defining encounters.

Geelong has now trailed at quarter time in five of its last six finals, by a combined margin of 131 points.

“It’s all attitude. We’ve done our homework, we’ve done our review, we’ve done our preview of the game. We know what we’re trying to implement. It’s just the attitude we bring – it’s as simple as that,” Stewart said.

"It’s a battle of almost wills in there at the start of the game and we’ve just got to start with the hunter mentality and just get after them.
