Scott on his assessment of Adelaide
I was going to call them the best team in the comp last year because they finished on top of the ladder, but certainly at times they were and I am happy to stand by my assessment on that basis.
Round 1 they were really good, I thought last week was a really high standard game against the Bulldogs. They were outplayed for periods there, but were good enough to get themselves in a winning position.
We have a high level of respect for them, but we have had that for a long time.
Those teams that have been building for quite a while, have put together a pretty formidable group of players.
I would imagine that their high expectations are well founded.
Scott on Dangerfield's Status
He has had a little bit of a niggle for a little while, it is the reason he didn't play the Gold Coast game.
The progression has just been slow, but seemingly okay and it just grumbled along a little bit.
The biggest issue at the moment is that he just hasn't had any continuity at training. As much as anything, he is the one driving the fact that he feels like he needs a block of training to be really confident to play the way that he knows he can.
Even if you extend it back a little bit, he played Origin and was a bit restricted coming off that as well. Even the very best players need to train with some continuity to be able to play their best.
We have had a pretty strong and consistent history with our approach with him in particular, when he is not in that mode where he cane really perform at his best, we tend to be a conservative.
Scott on Brad Close
Captains run day I am not completely out of the loop, but I can be. Our team will come out tonight so I will throw you a bone on this one, I won't explain exactly who we are going to pick.
But we won't pick Brad Close.
He is actually in a similar situation to Patrick, we don't think he has had an optimal preparation to this point and we would like to make the most of these long breaks between games, to get some more training in.
He will get a little bit of VFL game time as well, and likely that it will be full game time.
But we think we can put a program together for him to get him back to his best pretty quickly physically, and have him available for the Hawthorn game. It is quite a proactive move in our opinion.
Scott on Ollie Henry's VFL Performance
It was really good. It is nice when you can see the evidence this is often hidden from you.
When I said in previous weeks that we were really happy with the steps forward that he had taken, we meant it.
It wasn't a surprise to us to see him perform as well as he did in the VFL game, off the back of that preparation.
I think I was clear last time, that it was much more a product of Cameron and Dangerfield back in the team, rather than us not wanting Ollie in the team after Opening Round.
Scott on whether he thinks the rule changes have been good for football
I do, yeah I do. I am not sure whether it has helped us or hurt us yet, so you should always take what coaches say and consider their bias.
I am unashamedly more interested in how these things affect Geelong.
The changes they have made have been really well explained, and they are consistent with the AFL's stated aim of trying to open up the game a little bit more.
I am not sure that has always been the case, but I think the current iteration of rule changes have been positive, communicated really early and having the attended impact.
All we can ask of them is to be really clear in their communication, and then give us enough time to adjust to it.
