Humphries on his AFL Origin experience

I loved it, personally.

I think probably the main things I took away was just the little learning you get from playing with some of the best players, even playing against the best players. I played on Toby Greene a lot that night, I felt like I learned a lot just from that experience.

That was really good, but then also playing with guys like Jordan Clark and those defensive guys, that have been doing it really well for a number of years. Trying to learn from what they do, it was a really good experience for me as a young player to learn that.

But also just to develop relationships throughout the AFL, that was pretty cool and I know a lot of the boys had a lot of fun with it.

I think it was a really special event and hopefully they do it for a few more years.

Humphries on representing Western Australia

It was really well led.

'Coxy' [Dean Cox] was really good as a coach, he was really passionate about it. It was a really good experience, and having the right people around it really gave us a lot of energy and belief.

As a group, it really galvanised us and I think it was a really good experience for that aspect.

Representing the state is something that we haven't been able to do for 30 odd years, so to do it again and then hopefully do it for a few more years, I think a lot of boys took a lot out of it.

Humphries on how his Origin success translates to Geelong

It has definitely given me a lot of confidence.

I think the way I was able to play the second half in that game, it gave me a lot of confidence that I can match it with the games best. Just trying to take that confidence into the season, because obviously it is going to be a long year but there is nothing better than starting your year really well.

As a group, we have got a really tough first month and we are going to have a tough year, we have got a pretty solid fixture which is good. We have to be ready right from game one, Gold Coast up there is going to be really tough and it is going to be on from the opening bounce.

It is really exciting, but I think it was a really good stepping stone to get ready for the season.

Humphries on whether the Cats have addressed their tough fixture

Not really, we are not like that as a group. I am just pretty organised to be honest, I like to look ahead at what our fixture looks like.

As a group, we are all just taking it week by week and we have got a lot of young guys that are trying to find their spot in the side. That is really exciting, so I think we have got a lot of guys that are trying to put their best foot forward in the practice games we have had.

I think that has been a really good aspect, that we haven't really been thinking about the season too much.

We are just taking it day by day, week by week and I think by the time team selection rolls around, we will be ready.

Humphries on Geelong's confidence heading into the Opening Round

Obviously we have had a few injuries, but I feel like that is pretty standard and every club in the competition has got them.

I think the thing that we will have this year is really strong depth, we have had it for a few years but even if we are missing a few of those mainstays, we have got a lot of really good guys coming through.

A lot of really good young guys and players from our Academy that have shown really good signs, so I am pretty confident either way.

We are going to have a really strong side and we will take a lot of confidence, knowing that those guys have had a really good pre-season and will be ready to go.
