Geelong's AFLW team will be looking for a fifth consecutive win this week, when they head to Victoria Park on Saturday for a big clash with Collingwood. 

The Magpies are yet to record their first win of the 2026 season but despite their record, they have still been relatively competitive with only one losing margin over 30 points. 

Ranked as one of the better intercepting teams in the AFLW, Collingwood still sit among the competition's top teams in a number of key metrics and will provide a stern challenge for the Cats this week.

The Magpies rank strongly in their ability to intercept the football this year, looking to make it difficult for opposition teams to score and then turning their defence into offence. 

Collingwood are averaging 66.6 intercept possessions per game in 2026, above the AFLW average and higher than Geelong's average, currently ranked sixth in the competition in that metric. 

They also rank fifth in the AFLW for rebound 50s per game, able to repel opposition attacks off the back of their intercepting prowess. 

The Magpies are led in that area by the likes of Tarni White and Jordyn Allen, something the Cats will need to be aware of as they transition into attack.

Speaking of Tarni White, the star defender has been sensational in 2026 and has stood up under immense pressure at times. 

White is averaging 7.6 intercept possessions per game so far this year, ranking seventh in the competition for total intercept possessions and 17th for total marks. 

She also ranks in the AFLW's top 10 for rebound 50s, but what sets White apart is her ability to find plenty of the football, amassing 28 disposals in last week's clash with the Gold Coast Suns. 

Geelong's tall forwards have been in fine form so far this year, but they will need to be at their best once again to handle the likes of White and Collingwood's solid defence on Saturday. 

Where Geelong Can Improve - Uncontested Marks

Geelong were dominant for large parts of last week's contest against Adelaide, but there were still facets of the game that the Crows were able to gain the ascendancy in, such as their ability to control the football at times. 

The Cats conceded 54 uncontested marks to the Crows last Saturday, a differential of -17 at the conclusion of the match and also a differential of -18 in the kicking count, highlighting the contrasting styles of the two teams. 

While it ultimately did not change the outcome of the match, it also meant that Geelong conceded 42 inside 50s to the Crows and recorded a -8 differential in that statistic, perhaps fortunate that Adelaide could only convert those 42 inside 50s into six goals. 

Collingwood will undoubtedly bring their own plans and style to Saturday's contest, but the Cats could potentially alleviate some pressure by finding uncontested possessions and controlling the game for longer periods in Round 6.
