The Cats have had a frantic finish to the penultimate day of the AFLW trade period, finalising a deal with St Kilda and adding three other players to their list for the 2026 season.

Geelong's deal with the Saints saw experienced defender, Nicola Stevens join the club along with a future third-round draft pick, while the Cats sent a future second-round pick in return to RSEA Park.

Following that news, the club also announced the signing of three other players including Gaelic footballer, Emma Murray who has joined Geelong as an Other Sport Rookie.

The Cats also added Jasmin Stewart and Alissa Brook, with the pair both signed as free agents after being delisted by Port Adelaide at the conclusion of the 2025 season.

Trade Complete: Geelong Secure Nicola Stevens from St Kilda

Geelong has finalised a trade deal and will bolster its defensive stocks for the 2026 AFLW season, securing experienced player Nicola Stevens from St Kilda.

The deal will see the Cats receive Stevens and a future third-round draft pick, sending a future second-round selection back to the Saints.

It is the first player that Geelong has acquired during the 2025 player movement period, with all the action set to wrap up tomorrow on the final day of the trade period.

Stevens brings a wealth of experience to Geelong as she prepares to join her fourth AFLW club, having played 92 games at the top level during stints with Collingwood, Carlton and St Kilda.

Drafted with the sixth pick in the 2016 AFLW draft, Stevens started her journey at Collingwood and played seven games during her inaugural season with the club.

It was a brilliant debut season for Stevens, who went on to take out Collingwood's best and fairest award while also earning a spot in the AFLW All-Australian team.

After her opening year at the top level, the defender was traded from the Magpies to Carlton, where she spent five seasons and played 42 games.

Stevens was then involved in another trade deal, switching from Carlton to St Kilda ahead of the 2022 Season 7 competition.

Along with her plaudits on the field, Stevens has also been recognised off it, spending two years in St Kilda's leadership group.

Cats Sign Exciting Irish Talent for 2026 AFLW Season

Geelong Cats has signed Gaelic Footballer Emma Murray as an Other Sport Rookie for the 2026 AFLW Season.

Murray, 27, is a talented half-back winger with great athletic ability, composure and leadership skills, a key part of Waterford’s All Ireland Championship win over Donegal in October 2024.

Named Waterford captain for the 2025 season, she won her first ever All Star award after a sensational campaign, becoming the first Waterford player to win a Ladies’ Football All Star award since 2007.

Murray also captained the Comeragh Rangers to their inaugural Munster Senior Club Ladies’ Football Championship title.

Murray will arrive in Australia in May and will commence pre-season training with Geelong's AFLW team.

A triplet, Murray is from a well-known Gaelic Football family and plays alongside sisters Aoife and Cora for Waterford.

Her signing takes the number of Irish players on Geelong’s primary AFLW list to four, joining Rachel Kearns, Kate Kenny and Aishling Moloney,

Geelong Cats AFLW Operations and Recruiting Manager Ben Waller said the Club was thrilled to welcome Murray to the Hoops.

“Emma has displayed the traits of a player who we think can develop into a very athletic half-back and wing prospect; she has impressive running capability and is known back home for her great composure and decision-making,” Waller said.

“We can’t wait to welcome Emma to Australia and the Cats and wish her all the best as she completes her campaign back home with Waterford.”

Cats Add Athletic Young Defender for 2026

Geelong has continued to strengthen this back line ahead of the 2026 AFLW season, signing delisted free agent Alissa Brook from Port Adelaide.

The news follows an earlier trade between the Cats and St Kilda, which will see experienced defender Nicola Stevens pull on the blue and white Hoops next year.

Brook is an impressive young defender from South Adelaide, with her AFLW journey starting in 2023 after she was selected by Port Adelaide with pick 25 in the Draft.

Described as an athletic prospect, Brook dominated at the AFLW Draft Combine and caught the eye of recruiters, particularly impressing in the vertical jump testing.

Brook made her debut at the top level in Round 5 of the 2024 season against Richmond, going on to play three games in her inaugural season with the Power.

She would add another seven games in 2025, before being delisted by Port Adelaide at the end of the season.

At just 20 years of age and with plenty of speed and agility, Brook will be a welcome addition to Geelong's AFLW playing list for the 2026 season.

Cats Secure Jasmin Stewart to Bolster Forward Line

Geelong's frantic finish to the penultimate day of the AFLW trade period continues, with the Cats securing experienced forward Jasmin Stewart as a delisted free agent.

Stewart becomes the third new player to join the club this evening, after the Cats swung a trade with St Kilda for defender Nicola Stevens, while also adding Alissa Brook as a free agent.

Bringing 42 games of experience at the top level, Stewart is an impressive forward with plenty of natural talent from Western Australia, who also possesses a great goal sense and a ferocious tackling ability.

Stewart's AFLW career commenced in 2018, when she was selected by Fremantle with pick four in the Draft.

She did not play a game at the top level in her inaugural season with the Dockers, but went on to feature in 22 matches across the next three seasons, before retiring from football and returning to the WAFLW.

After spending a season away from the AFLW, Stewart returned in 2023 and signed with Port Adelaide in the Supplementary Draft.

Stewart would spend a further three seasons with the Power and featured in 20 games, before being delisted at the end of 2025.
