With the 2025 AFLW season about to reach a conclusion, right around the corner is the trade and draft period over the next few weeks. 

Geelong have been very active in both periods in recent years, involved in two trades and picking three players at the draft in 2024. 

With the Cats making a number of list changes and four players announcing their retirement at the end of the season, the upcoming player movement period looms as a big one for Geelong heading into 2026.

Georgie Prespakis has secured another All-Australian blazer after a dominant year for Geelong's AFLW team.

How the Draft Works in 2025

The 2025 Telstra AFLW Draft will take place on the 15th of December, with clubs from right across the country to descend on Marvel Stadium in search of the competition's next superstar.

The draft order is based on reverse finishing order positions from the previous season, each club must make at least two selections on the night.

The Pre-Season Draft

Each Club will have the option to retain up to two spots on its list that can be filled at the AFLW Pre-Season Draft.

Only Players who nominated for the 2025 Telstra AFLW Draft and were not selected by any Club in that AFLW Draft will be eligible to be selected in the AFLW Pre-Season Draft in 2025.

2025 AFLW Trade Period

The 2025 AFLW trade period will run from Thursday, December 4 until Wednesday, December 10.

Last year, Geelong was involved in two trades which included a number of draft picks changing hands, while Darcy Moloney headed to Sydney.

A player who has previously been signed on a one-year deal and is offered another one-year deal by the same club but at a lower payment tier than the previous contract is considered to be a restricted free agent. If another club offers this player a payment at or above their previous payment tier, the player is able to move to that club as a restricted free agent during this window.

Clubs can pick up players who have been delisted by other clubs via the delisted free agency (DFA) period which also runs from Wednesday, December 4 until Wednesday, December 11. A second DFA period will be open for just two days following the conclusion of the trade period.
