There is plenty of pressure when a club holds the second pick in a draft.

With a full selection of a draft board stacked full of talent, it is the sort of pick that can make or break franchises, offering the chance to secure a player capable of changing the fortunes of an entire team.

That was the task that fell into Geelong's hands at the end of 2021 and they certainly made no mistake, drafting exciting young midfielder Georgie Prespakis.

That pick proved to be one of the best selections in the club's AFLW history, commencing an extraordinary story that has seen Prespakis develop into one of the game's best players, despite being only 22 years of age.

This weekend the brilliant on-baller will notch another milestone in her incredible journey, with Prespakis set to play her 50th AFLW game on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the start of her AFLW career, Prespakis was a highly touted prospect out of the Calder Cannons, featuring for Vic Metro and Essendon's VFLW team in 2021 before earning her chance at the top level.

She took no time introducing herself to the Cats faithful in her inaugural season with Geelong, debuting in the opening round of Season 6 (2022) and collecting 20 disposals and seven clearances, offering a glimpse of what was to come.

In Round 6, Prespakis put together another strong performance to earn an AFLW Rising Star nomination, eventually earning selection in the AFLPA's 22under22 team at the end of the year.

The superstar ended her first season at the top level with averages of 21.8 disposals, 5.7 clearances, and 3.0 score involvements per game.

If there was any need to further solidify her standing within Geelong's team, it came in the opening round of Season 7 (2022) when Prespakis kicked the Cats’ only two goals, guiding her team to a thrilling victory over Richmond.

It was the beginning of a remarkable campaign for Prespakis, who earned her first selection in the AFLW All-Australian team, while also being named in the 22under22 side for a second consecutive season.

The 22-year-old took her game to even greater heights in 2023 averaging 24.2 disposals, 6.6 clearances, and 7.2 tackles per game and claiming her first Geelong best and fairest award.

Now into her fifth season, Prespakis continues to cement her legacy as one of the top players in the AFLW, currently sitting second on the coaches’ votes leaderboard in the 2025 season.

On Saturday afternoon, Prespakis will become just the eighth player in Geelong Football Club history to reach 50 AFLW games, a brilliant start to her career with a bright future still ahead.
