It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Bill Dalziel this morning, following a long illness. Bill was just shy of his 96th birthday and his 70th wedding anniversary—a remarkable life well lived, remembered for his loyalty and quiet strength.
Bill began his football journey with South Purrumbete, before being recruited to Geelong FC, where he played 14 Reserves matches in the 1953 season. He went on to make a lasting impact across regional Victoria as a respected player and coach, both on and off the field.
Beyond football, Bill was a highly regarded primary school teacher, shaping young minds with the same care and commitment he brought to the game.
In 1973, Bill was appointed to assist Bill McMaster as a recruiting officer for the Geelong Football Club. Over more than 25 years, he travelled extensively, identifying and nurturing talent that would go on to shape generations of Cats footballers. His influence extended to the Club’s development programs, where he worked with training squads from Under 14s to Under 17s, helping lay the foundation for future success.
In 1996, Bill was deservedly inducted as a GFC Life Member, recognising his outstanding contribution to the Club and the broader football community.
We extend our sincere condolences to Jill and the Dalziel family.
Sadly missed, fondly remembered.
