There has been an air of inevitability about the Cats at certain times this year.
Another barnstorming finish against West Coast last week lifted Geelong to fifth place on the ladder, a seven goal final quarter doing all the damage in a 43 point victory.
Listen closely to any post game interview and Cats players will talk about the team's great strength, which is their ability to outrun opponents and finish off games strongly.
The stats certainly support that notion, Geelong have only been outscored in one of their 12 fourth quarters to this point of the season.
But just how dominant are the Cats in the final term?
Let's crunch some numbers.
Across the course of the 2025 season, Geelong has kicked 56 goals and scored a total of 370 points in the fourth quarter, kicking at least four goals on nine different occasions in final terms this year. By comparison the Cats have only conceded 21 goals and 151 total points to opposition teams, not conceding four goals or more in a fourth quarter to any team they have faced so far in 2025.
That is a +219 point differential in final quarters for Geelong, which is fairly significant.
To put into further perspective, Geelong have scored a total of 1214 points in their 12 games, which means they score 30.5% of their points in last quarters. The Cats have conceded 973 points to opposition teams, only 15.5% of that comes in the fourth stanza.
Again, fairly significant.
Geelong's Best Fourth Quarters in 2025
| ROUND | OPPONENT | GEELONG'S SCORE | DIFFERENTIAL |
| 1 | Fremantle | 10.3 (63) | +57 |
| 12 | West Coast | 7.5 (47) | +32 |
| 10 | Port Adelaide | 7.4 (46) | +40 |
| 5 | Adelaide | 5.3 (33) | +27 |
On four occasions in the last eight weeks, scores have either been level or the Cats have trailed in the second half and have gone on to win the game. Geelong's ability to stay in games has been evident in their defeats this year too, with the biggest loss coming against Carlton by 18 points, the other three defeats all less than a 10 point margin.
Rest assured that if the Cats trail at any point in the game, they are certainly never out of the contest.
But who have been the most influential players in the fourth quarter?
Well it all starts at the top with superstar forward, Jeremy Cameron who has broken numerous games open in the last term this year.
Currently clear on top of the Coleman Medal leaderboard with 38 goals for the year, Cameron has kicked 16 majors in fourth quarters alone in 2025. This includes three goals in the last term against Fremantle, three against Adelaide, five against Port Adelaide and four against West Coast, leading the Cats to wins in all four matches.
Tyson Stengle has made his presence felt in final terms, kicking seven goals across six final quarters. Ollie Dempsey has also proven to be a performer in the big moments, hitting the scoreboard in five different fourth quarters this year and booting six goals.
Plenty has been made of the running power between star duo Bailey Smith and Max Holmes this year, but that certainly rings true in final terms. Smith averages 7.6 disposals in last quarters while Max Holmes accumulates an average of 6.6 possessions, very strong numbers when fatigue sets in near the end of games.
Shaun Mannagh is another who stands tall when the pressure is on, averaging 6.8 disposals in last quarters this year.
Geelong will look to continue their strong run of form this weekend, when they take on the Gold Coast Suns at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.
