If you asked anyone who crossed paths with Troy Selwood to describe him, there would be many words used that would paint a picture of a simply wonderful human being.

His kindness, compassion and determination were clear for all to see, along with his loyalty and bravery which made Troy such a highly regarded individual.

During his time with the Geelong Football Club, Troy inspired a sense of unity and inclusion, a key figure who helped all departments across the club to function together with fluency and class.

Part of an incredible family, Troy grew up just outside of Bendigo in Strathdale, taking on brothers Adam, Joel and Scott in the backyard under the watchful eye of loving parents, Bryce and Maree.

His AFL dream became a reality in 2002, when Troy was drafted by the Brisbane Lions. He would go on to play 75 games across six seasons in the Sunshine State, before a move back closer to home came calling.

Selwood joined the Cats VFL program in 2011, making an immediate impact at the club and was promptly appointed co-captain under the leadership of head coach, Matthew Knights.

In three years as a player Troy built an impressive resume, captaining his team to a premiership in 2012 while also earning back-to-back VFL team of the year selections in 2012 and 2013.

Despite these incredible accolades as an individual, it was Selwood's impact on the people around him that continued to set him apart, regarded as a sensational leader and mentor for all players across the football club.

Following his retirement from the game, Troy continued to be an integral part of the Geelong Football Club, serving as a football operations co-ordinator and manager at different stages, and the Cats talent ID manager for a number of years.

With a passion for the future of the game and the young stars coming through, Troy excelled in every role he took on and provided a number of memorable moments along the journey.

Troy also spent a short period of time at Collingwood, before joining Geelong Grammar as the head of football and sport performance.

Troy was much loved and so highly regarded by every person that he came in contact with.

The Club sends its heartfelt condolences to Troy's family and friends.

Rest peacefully, Troy.
